Not a picture from the Adventure!!!

We were in the saddle at 7:30 yesterday morning, to go move Richardson's cattle off the big meadow SW of their house, and move them up beyond the pivot on top of the hill to the S of the house.  Reason being, they were going to turn out 4 big Clydesdale horses to gallop along in front of the mountains for a photo shoot advertizing St. Pat's Hospital.

We get to the cattle, after a long trot from Lynette's, and there are two calves on the wrong side of the fence.  Lynette opens the gate, and sends Elaine and I off to bring the calves back.  Of course the black one decides that in honor of the upcoming Belmont Stakes, he'll make a giant run to the West.  We take off, too.  About fifty yards into the run, Sam decides he's feeling just too good, and begins to crowhop, so I'm in a HIGH lope, and Elaine breaks on by on Jewel, and says she'll get the next gate, and bring the calf on down.  And we did--and by this time, the whole herd has got excited, and broke to the West--and then some towards the cabin, and across the draw and up the steep hillside.  I stayed at the SW corner, and tried to keep my horse busy, because he was wound up pretty tight by now.  Elaine, Debbie R and Lynette and dogs were whooping, hollering, rocks were sliding, cattle calling for calves--you've been there!  Well, we finally got them bunched up towards where I was, and we were moving them East, towards the Ditch.  Here comes the film crew, big horses in their trailer, etc.  Park right where we've got to go.  We're blowing and going to move the cattle  (they had been driven that way a week ago to the corrals for branding, vaccinations, etc., and they don't want to go there again).

So............here's two dogs, 4 women, riding like hell, swooping and hooting, dogs barking, and immediately the film crew sees a Kodak Moment.  They leap out of the trucks with their cameras, and start shooting the stampede coming right at them.  We drove the cattle right through the whole Mary Ann, and off through the draw, and up past the pivot.  Very Old West, and I have saddle sore knees today to prove it.

The film crew just thought we were great, and kept taking our pictures, while others were figuring out how to set up the shot.  Finally, it was decided Elaine would stay out in the meadow. and  lead/drive the big horses where the film crew needed them to be.  They set up a regular movie film camera on a track that moved parallel with the mountains, so as the horses moved North and South, the camera would sweep with them. The mountains were very dramatically lit and the cloud formations were just beautiful.

Elaine galloped back and forth, so she knew her 'marks' for the camera, then out came the big horses, and they were turned free.  We were up on the hill by the pivot--it was breathtakingly beautiful--five black and white horses on the lush green meadow, with those mountains for a back-drop---Wow!  Elaine was a real pro--moved those big horses in a unit back and forth like a charm.  It was something to see.

And we will be able to see--because they said that Lynette will get an uncut version of the film.  I'm anxious to see if it is as wonderful on film as it was for the spectators.  We're also going to get pictures of ourselves out of it, too.

All in all--another memorable Lynette Adventure Story!
